Filter Scanning and Analysis

Ruckus MailFILTER uses the Smart Bayesian™ system. Smart Bayesian™ is a robust, 'smart' filtering and analysis engine that detects 'spam footprints' in email messages, and then quarantines suspect messages.

• The system is easily 'trained' to meet corporate and/or the user's personal definitions of spam.

User-defined lists and protocols.

• Black lists
• White lists - A white list can be automatically created from each user's outbound email, and can be created corporately and/or by each user.
• Gray list - specific addresses that are always fully filtered, no matter the content.
• User-defined protocol files that allow adding corporate protocols, if desired.

Commercial list support. Incorporates commercial White and Black; IPv4, IPv6 and FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) lists.

Automatically quarantines 'executable' files to limit exposure to mail-based viruses.

Control and Access

Multiple 'control' points (at system level and at desktop CPU) for flexible control of the filtering process.

Suspect spam messages can be blocked (bounced), tagged or quarantined in separate user quarantined message files. Quarantined messages are never lost - or permanently deleted - unless and until deletion is desired.

Web-based user-interface for viewing quarantined messages and/or to modify user filter and report settings.

• The web page is easy to access (but password protected for each individual user) and intuitive to operate.
• Quarantined message viewing format can match any email browser-viewing format. HTML images and links are 'locked' when viewing to prevent potential transmission of a receipt message back to spammers.

Customized settings are avaliable to each individual user, including:

• Spam message handling and response to sender
• Message quarantine settings
• Message sorting and viewing options
• Notification of receipt of message

Easy-to-use template development language allows modification of the web-page templates to coordinate with any corporate brand.

Logging and Reporting

Quarantined (spam) message reports can be sent to each user at flexible (and user-set) intervals.

• Each user is informed of the total number of emails they have received, as well as the total number of messages quarantined.
• System reports of messages received and quarantined.
• Filter and analysis statistics are available for each quarantined message.

Real-time logging of message receipt, scanning, and filtering activity for the entire Ruckus MailFILTER system.

Self-contained chronological engine to perform complex tasks, such as: sending mail from the mail queue, cleaning up data files, cleaning up user data, rotating log files, etc.

System Capacity

Scan, filter, analyze, sort, and then update Bayesian filter files, for a minimum of 50 email messages per second (4,320,000 email messages per day) based on an average email size of 25 kilobytes.

System capacity is limited only by the number of addresses carried under the license agreement.

System Setup

Designed to work within existing email system resources. Installation of Ruckus MailFILTER generally doesn't require new or upgraded equipment to operate effectively.

Effective 'right-out-of-the-box'. Can be installed and effectively used with little or no 'system tweaking' if the IT staff knows how the corporate email system operates - or can be easily customized to fit personal user requirements.

Configurable to operate within systems where the inbound SMTP and outbound SMTP reside on different physical machines.
