Boulder Colorado, August 6th 2004
FPSN.NET Development, Inc., a
leader in providing enterprise-class software defense against spam and email
viruses, today announced the availability of Ruckus MailFILTER(TM) Version
1.0. The newest version of the security software provides users with a more
instinctive, expedient and accessible tool through multiple enhancements.
Systems management and administration can now be done via Web interface.
New management tools provide log file analysis, classification and
categorization for users. Systems status for any number of servers can also be
obtained. Spam, non-spam and virus trends are represented in daily, weekly,
monthly and yearly graphs. "This means that system managers can view all
active policies, statistics, and take control over them at any point," says
Colin Faber, head of product development at FPSN.
The Web front-end can now be configured to lock out end users from
automatic policy creation, so that all policies can be created for the entire
system by administrative staff. A user would only be allowed to log in after
an administrator gives permission and sets up the account. This gives ISPs the
choice to piece-meal sell protected mailboxes, which keeps overall
implementation costs down and provides options for price-point mailbox sales.
The Ruckus A.I. now allows pre-biased and unbiased knowledge base filters.
"Basically, the knowledge base is the shared database of knowledge about what
is or is not spam," says Faber. "Now when you install the software it allows
you to select an 'Aggressive' biasing toward spam, or a 'Virgin' biasing
(meaning it doesn't know one way or the other and the user specifically
defines what is or is not spam)." A.I. scanning can also be locked down to
only scan mail intended for current, authorized policy holders.
The main front-end application is about 1000 percent faster than it was.
The software originally handled 10 to 15 requests a second, while Version 1.0
handles 100 to 150 requests a second. "The main front-end application is what
all end users and site administrators see and use to interact with the
software," notes Faber. "We wanted to ensure immediate response on commands
for our users, and we were able to achieve that with the dramatically
increased speed."
Other upgrades include smarter A.I. algorithms, which aid in correctly
identifying, categorizing and classifying email addresses and URLs -- actual
content found within the message.
Product Availability. Ruckus Version 1.0 is available for use on ISP
servers serving an unlimited number of simultaneous users, as well as for
typical office e-mail server systems. Ruckus 1.0 is now available as a
download at http://www.fpsn.net. Cost is U.S. $5 per mailbox; no annual subscription
and/or maintenance contract is required.
